I posted on Tuesday that my daughter lost her beloved ESA, Cosmos, during neutering surgery. On Wednesday she adopted Gatsby. The shelter says Gatsby’s personality and loving and friendly, so he would make a good ESA. Normally after the traumatic loss of a pet, we would give ourselves time to grieve before we adopted another pet, but our time is limited as my daughter goes back to school Jan. 2nd. It’s been hard, since Gatsby is not like Cosmos (nor should we expect him to be). He is more reserved in his affection (but can be bribed with greens!), does not want to be picked up, and still struggles to use the litter box all the time, even though he is 2 1/2 years old. I know with time my daughter and Gatsby will learn to love and trust each other.
