Hi everyone. * I have been to two different vets and he is currently stable* I’ve been having reoccurring episodes of stasis with my boy that are getting more frequent. On Dec 15th I brought him to urgent care because he wasn’t eating, was hiding and peed on himself. I was at the urgent care for 5 hours. Spent $350 ( which sadly is on the cheap end). He only really got iv fluids from them and an exam. They couldn’t figure out why this happened, he randomly started to eat on his own there. Said to give him metacam every 8hrs instead of every 12. Took him home and was traumatized from the day we both had. He started to do better, starting to fully finish his dinner again. I made a follow up with his usual vet for Monday dec 22nd to see if we could find more answers. The took x rays and another exam. (Costed $225) She said it could be 1. Is teeth being sharp but isn’t bad enough to be causing this 2. Arthritis flare ups 3. Passing a calcium stone but she didn’t see any on the x ray. I believe this visit set him back by stressing him out then not wanting to eat again. This has been happening on and off for months. Vet said to schedule the teeth surgery within the next year or so, not indicating for emergency. It is soo stressful when these “episodes” happen. I always have everything on hand. Metacam, baby gas drops, oversupply of baby syringes, emeraid. It turns into me fighting with him, emeraid slop all over him, myself, my room. I’m just curious to hear if anyone has any feedback or ideas on how to resolve this better. Anything any trained eyes see on the x ray that me or my vet doesn’t. I’m so nervous for him to do teeth surgery. I’m scared of how expensive it’s going to be and for him to be under anesthesia as he’s now considered middle aged (roughly 6/7 years old). Both vets said I’m doing everything right. I’m sure you all know the insanity of staying up late at night worried sick about your bun, begging them to eat, syringe sword fighting and mashed up banana everywhere. Right now I’m going to call tmr to ask if maybe we can try antibiotics in the mean time if there’s a possible infection we don’t see. And what I can add to his water to really make sure he stays hydrated. Even if anyone can help calm my anxiety a bit that would help too 🙁
