Do we attempt to bond another bun after the passing of our sweet girl?

A little while ago, back in August, we said goodbye to our Holland lop, Bunbun. We loved her so much, she was such a sweet, affectionate girl, and we were so lucky to have her for 10.5 years.

Our other bunny, Hugo Buns, is 6 years old and he definitely grieved the loss of his bonded mate. But now…well honestly he seems to be living his best life.

He seems to have more personality now – he’s always been a bit ‘feral’ and doesn’t like to be touched. But he wants to be in the same room as us, he plays ball with us now. He comes running for banana treat, is beside himself excited when my husband comes home knowing it’s afternoon treat…

They were very bonded but, Bunbun was always so jealous of Hugo. Even up until the very last day with her, if I paid attention to Hugo, she’d come running and get between us. We’ve always wondered if this is why he has shied away from us petting him?

So now we are wondering about getting another bunny and attempting to bond them. But we can’t help but wonder, are we considering getting another bunny for us? Is it really what is best for Hugo or is he happier as a solitary boy?

TLDR: questioning getting a new bunny to bond with our boy, or whether he is truly better off as a solitary little guy?
