Male rabbit creating a big pile of dry compact hay

Hi! Bucky is 9 years old (neutered male) and he's started to move a lot of his hay to the back corner of his house. He's got two floors in here, and likes to eat on the top floor, but now he's started moving any hay he doesn't eat down into this huge pile where he spends most of his non-playing time. he's pretty grumpy when i move it (im checking it's not wet, because sometimes he jumps in his water bowl and splashes it over all his hay and makes it gross 🤢) but it appears to all be clean, dry, compacted hay, and he always gets mad when i move things in his house so it's not new territorialness.

he's still eating normally, and drinking plenty of water before he goes water bowl swimming, and he uses his litter tray 90% of the time as usual. wondering if this is normal nesting behavior for a neutered male rabbit or whether to call the vet on Monday. if it's not doing him any harm, i dont want to remove it unnecessarily.
