This is Kiwi (she is 10 weeks old) and came to us a few days ago.
We have a 3yo castrated male, that has been living together with a female since he was very young. Unfortunately we had to let her pass on to her final sleep a few weeks ago (9yo) because of a bad ear-inflammation.
He was very submissive to her (I guess since she was much older when they met), but they loved and took good care of each other. And after she passed he was very sad. So we figured he needed a new friend which we hope will be Kiwi.
We have been reading about waiting until she is at least 16weeks old before putting them together to try bonding. They already live with double bars in between and usually sit around eating and laying down as close as they can. They did manage to sniff each other when she pressed through the bars. And it went well. We have been swapping some things back and forth between their enclosures to make them used to each others smell etc.
Do you guys think it's way to early to try boning in a couple of weeks? The male rabbit is very calm and never act out aggressively. I think he already likes her. But it's too soon right now I get that. She is too small and fragile. Someone told me that we should wait 6 months and for her to be castrated before. But is it really necessary to wait that long?
