House bunny- how to keep nails shorter?

Last night was another nail trim and now we are on a trial separation. I’m trying to come up with ideas to help keep the nails shorter for longer.

Jerry Beans has free range of one bedroom and large hallway 24/7 as well as almost daily trips to the downstairs. He has a space on the front porch so he can go out with us when we’re out. So he has space and room to move but not anything to really dig in. This week I’ve placed 2 pavers, one outside his litter box and one in a corner he likes to sit in while he judges me.He loves to be on them but I’m not thinking it’s going to be as helpful as I’d like.

He likes to scratch at vertical smooth surfaces like the side of storage bin or smooth cabinet. I thought about mounting something rough-ish like….sand paper or a cardboard cat scratcher (no luck with an actual cat tree) so we could use his natural behavior. But he would totally eat sandpaper so …blah, blah, blah.

I don’t want to reinvent the wheel, if you’ve figured this out please help me out. I hate to traumatize him and I can’t handle the rejection.
