Rabbit is Aging too Rapidly?

Hello,

My Bunny is about 6.5yrs old, a dwarf neutered male, free roam with good food and water and stuff to do. But it seems like this last year he has somewhat rapidly started to decline health wise and I just want to know if I’m doing something wrong or could do more for him.

X rays reveal he has some bridging arthritis on his spine, which has been preventing him from splooting, flopping, or zooming. His teeth are still good. He is on meloxicam daily, gets butt baths since he can’t reach anymore, and has a lower litter box. All have helped, but he still struggles with some maneuvers. He does not wince nor hide all day, he gets around, loafs, eats like a hog, and is still very curious, just much slower.

I am worried that, since he’s “only” 6.5 that I should be looking at laser or a larger daily dose of meds so he can make it to 10, 12, or more.

On the flip side, am I being too hopeful and sometimes they just age and that’s that? I don’t want to just shrug and let it be if there’s a good chance of giving him another comfortable, mobile few years. But I also don’t want to drag him along in pain hoping for a miracle. I’ve seen both happen with childhood dogs but this is my first rabbit.

TLDR: So, just wanted some honest opinions. Is he just getting old and that’s that, or am I conceding too soon and need to get him into laser therapy and more drugs? Thanks.
