She has a companion named Comrade Bun and I took him to get neutered about a month ago and he almost died (pic and post about it on my page).
Lola Bun is a little over 4 months old. I’ve read intact male buns cannot be bonded, and existing bonds can break. The two are very well bonded. Best friend buns for sure.
She is absolutely the boss of him. I watch them constantly and have a camera in their enclosure and never noticed them getting frisky until about a week ago. Lola Bun was humping Comrade Bun!
Every time he tried to hump her back she would not permit it. She even bit him some to hold him down. I checked them both over well and there was no broken skin or obvious injuries, but I still separated them from each other within their enclosure for about a day.
Let them back out to watch what they’d do and Comrade Bun was in his little dirt depression under my tomato trellis where he like to lay. Lola Bun hopped to him immediately, humped him til he left his spot, and Lola Bun took that spot for herself. Haven’t seen them hump battle since.
I’m rambling – just looking for encouragement for Lola Bun’s surgery, and see if anyone has insight about intact male rabbits not being able to be bonded.
Would their bond eventually break if Comrade Bun doesn’t get neutered? Would it make any difference with him being the submissive bun?
For the record, I plan on trying to neuter him again but wanted to wait until he’s at least 6 months old and he’s about 4 months and 3 weeks old now.
He is just such a sweet and good-natured fellow. I cannot imagine his and Lola’s bond breaking or him not being the sweetest little boy bun. Lola Bun is a little tyrant lol.
