I previously posted about getting two (mini satin) rabbits from a breeder/show at the fair.
I did get some comments to never buy rabbits from the fair. They might have been sadly correct. Im still trying to figure it all out in my head.
Two days later, the brown and white bunny (Bennie) passed away.
If you dont want to read the rest..
Jet is thriving. He is very curious and loves pets. He is using his litter box pretty well. Hes a total joy. I took two weeks off of work to bond with him and work on the bunny room
When I got Bennie I assumed he was just very scared of his new surroundings and was a shy guy but now think he had to have something wrong.
He was eating and drinking when he came home (not as much as Jet). He was very quiet compared to the other rabbit (Jet).
I don't know if there was something I could have done. Maybe I should have immediately taken the bunnies to the vet, but in honest, I thought they were settling in and had different personalities. I have had shy rabbits in the past.
I did everything in my knowledge and in the resources to make sure they had access to what they needed (filtered water in two water bowls, free access to young rabbit kibble, alfalfa hay, two large litter box, a chicken run/pen with reusable fabric pads. Etc).
Im still racking my brain if I did something wrong. I have never just had a rabbit die young.
I posted a picture of the stuff I was using/am using in the pen (minus the stuff that has blue marks on it). Please tell me if you see anything wrong or I need. He stays in the pen when I am at work (part time). Come out into a room with a couch/running space/tunnels when I am home.
I did notice while I was getting the bunnies at the fair that they did not have food or hay in the cage. I dont know if the breeder was in the middle of changing it out or what. They also had a lot of overturned plastic water dishes.
I dont know if this had anything to do with Bennies death. The breeder obviously had kept these rabbits and others alive and well before. All the rabbits looked well and were active when I saw them.
Im not sure if I should reach out and let the breeder know what happened. He told me to text him if I had questions but I feel awful and ashamed this happened.
I dont know what I could have done but I feel like if I didnt buy him he might still be alive. I did so much more research when I got the new bunnies even after having bunnies most of my life. I really wanted them to have the best life ever now that I was old enough to give it.
Sorry for the long sad update but it didnt feel right to share anymore about Jet without letting someone know about Bennie.
