Greenish brown fluid coming out of bunny’s nose?

Is this just a lil boogie or should we take her to the vet? It’s dried to her fur. She’s acting fine (just had zoomies), but I want to make sure it’s nothing serious. P.S. her nails are getting trimmed asap😂😂

She’s a cutie pie! So, when you take her in for a nail trim, since you’re going soon anyway, yes?, I’d def. ask the vet to check her out. Even if you have a tech do her nails, ask if the vet can poke their head in for just a minute. Her nostrils look to be a bit flared in 2nd photo, which can indicate attempt to get enough air, breathing difficulty. I may not be interpreting picture correctly, but it’s def. worth running it past the good bun doc. Hope she’s ok!

One of mine has a chronic URI. His snot gets stained from hay dust and looks exactly like that. Keep an eye on your bun until you can get into the vet, and maybe try to shake out the dust from the hay as best you can.

You can also very gently clean away boogies with a cotton ball (safer than a q tip and more comfortable for bunny than a traditional facial tissue). Bunny may not like this, but it will clear the nostrils and make it easier to breathe.

We’ve had several rescues, and we’ve seen our share of everything respiratory. From hay dust allergies, to bordetella, to lung cancer. (A bunny allergic to hay… poor guy…)

After a runny nose similar to this, we discovered one of our guys had a deformed nasal cavity leading to periodic bacterial infections. A good nebulizer kept him clean and clear over the years, avoiding constant antibiotics and vet bills.

Story is, it’s definitely worth a trip to the vet. It could be a lot of things, and bunnies hide their ailments well. I’m guessing they’ll swab it and send it out for culture if they think it might be a minor infection. Hopefully it’s just some discharge, but better to knock it out quick if it’s something else.

If it turns out to be a hay allergy you may want to switch from Timothy to orchard grass hay. The orchard grass variety produces less dust.
