According to the Ministry of Finance, on October 30, 2026, the credit rating agency Fitch Ratings assessed Georgia’s sovereign rating. Taking various factors into account, the agency revised the outlook from stable to positive, while maintaining the rating unchanged at the ‘BB’ level.
As stated in the report, the assessment document notes that Georgia continues to demonstrate economic and fiscal resilience. The positive outlook on the rating is driven by the rapid accumulation of international reserves, a low current account deficit, and high economic growth. Georgia’s rating is further bolstered by a prudent fiscal policy, a moderate level of government debt, and a stable banking system.
The rating agency notes that, despite heightened geopolitical risks and high energy prices, the country has maintained strong economic growth, fueled by investments and robust export growth. Between 2023 and 2025, the country’s average economic growth exceeded 8%. Fitch Ratings expects that, in the medium term, Georgia’s real economic growth will remain higher than that of peer countries with similar ratings.
Furthermore, the agency continues to assess Georgia’s fiscal policy framework as prudent and transparent. This is complemented by the implementation of structural reforms, which contribute to macroeconomic stability and an improved business environment. It is also worth highlighting that the deficit-to-GDP ratio is significantly lower than the limit permitted by the fiscal rule, while the debt-to-GDP ratio shows a downward trend; furthermore, external debt consists primarily of concessional loans obtained from international financial institutions,” reads the statement.
