Power outages: CM Revanth warns to suspend Sp CS Energy Department, CMD TG-GENCO

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday threatened to suspend the Special Chief Secretary, Energy Department; the CMD, TG-GENCO; and other concerned IAS officers if they fail to supply power to farmers and prevent crop failure.

“I am accountable to the people. The situation has not changed despite my repeated instructions to supply electricity to protect the standing crops. I will not tolerate actions that cause hardship to the public, and I will not spare anyone found acting negligently,” CM Revanth said.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting with senior officials on rain deficit, the impact of El NiƱo, and the status of electricity and drinking water supply across the state.

The CM took serious note of power outages across the state. He enquired from the officials about the reasons behind the power shortage and the failure to improve the situation despite repeated directives to ensure a smooth power supply.

The Chief Minister discussed the failure of the Energy Department to increase power generation in detail. He asked why the Yadadri plant is not generating power at full installed capacity despite arrangements made for coal linkages from Naini and Mahanadi.

CM Revanth ordered the officials of the Electricity Department to ensure round-the-clock power supply to prevent crops from withering due to the rain deficit.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need to ensure uninterrupted power supply until the harvest is completed. Noting that the next 20 days are crucial for the crops, the CM cautioned that farmers should not suffer crop losses due to power shortages under any circumstances. The officials were instructed to identify the areas with high agricultural power demand and increase supply accordingly.
