As US power demand rises, Aligned lines up $500 million for distributed solar, storage

Rising U.S. power demand is driving more investment into clean energy projects that can be deployed quickly.

Aligned Climate Capital said its new investment vehicle, Aligned Solar Partners 7, has completed an initial close and aims to raise $500 million for distributed solar and energy storage projects nationwide.

Here’s what to know

As pv magazine USA reported, the fund is intended to own, finance, and operate middle-market assets amid electricity demand growth tied to expanding data centers, industrial reshoring, and transportation electrification.

Aligned said ASP7 has already identified more than 500 megawatts of potential projects. The fund focuses on construction-ready assets from developer partners, providing capital to build them and then keeping them as operating projects.

Utilities also face shortages in conventional generation options, and delays for large natural gas turbines can last years.

“Distributed solar and energy storage are now among the fastest ways to add reliable capacity to the grid, and the middle market is where much of that build-out actually happens,” said Peter Davidson, CEO of Aligned Climate Capital.

More background

The new fund follows six earlier vehicles launched since 2018. Through those funds, the firm acquired 56 projects in 10 states and built an operating portfolio that has generated more than 218 gigawatt-hours of clean electricity.

Founded in 2019, the company reported about $2.2 billion in total assets under management as of Dec. 31, 2025. It operates through two primary strategies: the Aligned Climate Fund, which invests in venture-stage clean energy technology companies, and Aligned Solar Partners, which owns and operates distributed infrastructure assets.

What’s being done?

Transactions across Aligned Climate Capital’s platform included $33 million in construction financing for two Delaware community solar projects and the acquisition of a community solar development in Illinois. Those deals reflect its broader strategy of backing projects that are already advanced enough to move quickly into construction, then supplying the financing and execution needed to complete them.

For homeowners following the same shift toward solar, comparison tools can make a big difference. With EnergySage’s help, the average person can save up to $10,000 on solar purchases and installations. EnergySage’s solar map shows the average cost of a home solar panel system by state, along with details on solar panel incentives for each state; together, these resources help homeowners get the best price for rooftop solar panels and access available incentives.

Adding battery storage to a solar setup is one of the best ways to protect your home during outages, save money on energy, and go off-grid. That aligns with ASP7’s focus on co-located storage, which is increasingly paired with solar as a faster-to-deploy source of reliable capacity. Homeowners can also explore EnergySage for information about home battery storage options, including competitive installation estimates.

“These projects need specialized financing and execution, which is what we have built the firm to do,” Davidson said. “The continued support from our investors gives us the capital to keep acquiring and building construction-ready projects.”
