According to a company press release, Georgia Power is preparing crews and resources for potential power outages this weekend as Hurricane Isaias threatens portions of its service territory with damaging winds, heavy rain and possible tornadoes.
The utility said its teams have spent the past week preparing to respond to storm damage. Power restoration will begin as weather conditions allow crews to work safely.
Georgia Power urged customers to prepare before the storm arrives and follow updates from local officials, news outlets and the National Weather Service.
Storm safety precautions
Before the storm, customers should review their emergency supplies and family plans, charge cellphones and unplug major appliances in case power is lost.
During the storm, take shelter in a sturdy building away from windows and doors. Avoid contact with electrical appliances, metal objects and water that could conduct electricity.
After the storm, stay away from downed or low-hanging wires, including telephone or television wires touching a power line. Never attempt to remove tree limbs from power lines.
Downed power lines can be hidden beneath debris or fallen trees. Anyone who sees a fallen or low-hanging power line should immediately call 911 or Georgia Power.
How to report and track outages
Customers can report an outage or check its status at GeorgiaPower.com/Storm or by calling 888-891-0938, available 24 hours a day.
The utility’s online outage map shows outage locations and estimated restoration times. Customers enrolled in Georgia Power’s free Outage Alert service can receive personalized text notifications and should check that their contact information is current.
Storm and outage information is also available through the Georgia Power mobile app for Apple and Android devices.
