Magnetic storm over the weekend: forecast for October 9, 10 and 11

The Sun is preparing a new blow to the Earth: the magnetic storm will intensify to the red level

Over the weekend, geomagnetic activity on Earth will remain unstable: after a stronger disturbance on Friday, a re-intensification of the magnetic storm is possible on Sunday. The highest predicted indicator for this period is Kp 6, which corresponds to a red-level storm.

This is evidenced by forecasts from Meteoagent, the British Geological Survey and NOAA.

The cause of the disturbances is said to be a solar plasma ejection that occurred on October 6. Its impact on the magnetosphere is expected to last for several days, but the intensity of the activity will vary.

According to NOAA’s forecast, on Friday, October 9 , the Kp index could reach 6. On Saturday, it will drop to 4, and on Sunday it could rise again to 5 — a level at which a weaker geomagnetic disturbance is possible.

Geomagnetic disturbances can affect satellite navigation, radio communications, and some power systems. NOAA warns that G1–G2 storms are possible on October 9 due to the arrival of a coronal mass ejection from the Sun.

At the same time, there is not enough convincing scientific evidence that magnetic storms directly cause headaches or blood pressure spikes in most people. If you feel worse, you should not automatically attribute your symptoms to geomagnetic activity – if you have severe complaints, you should consult a doctor.
