Deputy Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, has revealed that Ghana recorded 3,876 cyber security incidents between January and July 2026, with online fraud accounting for about 47% of the cases.

He disclosed this at the launch of the 2026 National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, held under the theme, “Securing Ghana’s Digital Financial Ecosystem: Building Trust, Collaboration and Cyber Resilience.” on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Mr. Sukparu said the figures from the Cyber Security Authority highlights the growing cyber threat facing the country as more people and businesses rely more on mobile money, digital banking, fintech platforms and other online services.

He said the increasing dependence on digital financial services requires stronger measures to protect citizens, businesses and institutions from cybercrime.

According to him, cyber resilience should not only focus on preventing attacks but also on how quickly institutions can detect, contain and recover from cyber incidents.

He called for stronger collaboration among banks, telecommunications companies, fintech firms, regulators and law enforcement agencies to prevent cyber threats from spreading.

“When one organization identifies any fraud, scam, or suspicious transaction trend, timely and responsible disclosure can help mitigate the threat before it spreads,” he said.

Mr. Sukparu also urged citizens to protect their digital credentials, verify payment requests and promptly report suspected fraud.

He said digital and financial literacy must form part of Ghana’s efforts to strengthen cyber security, particularly as more households and businesses depend on online services.

He noted that the Cybersecurity Act, 2022, and the national cyber security framework provide important support for Ghana’s response to cyber threats.

Mr. Sukparu said the Ministry remains committed to developing cyber security skills while creating opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship and national development.

He called on all stakeholders to make cyber security a sustained priority as Ghana works to build a safer and more trusted digital financial ecosystem.
