He was a meat rabbit who was going to be slaughtered and eaten, and she was a pet that a teenager got bored of. I volunteer at the rescue they were surrendered to and he was in my row, he always wanted head rubs while I was cleaning. He’d sit next to me and rub his chin on my shoe. She lived right across from him and he always jumped over to say hi to her when I let him out. My guinea pig passed away recently and I wanted to adopt him, I knew the perfect bun companion for him. When I went to visit the owner of the rescue set him on my lap, he sniffed my arm and then completely relaxed and laid down on me. I had gotten to know him so well from volunteering that he trusted me and felt safe in my home pretty quickly. The owner of the rescue helped bond them before they came home, little girl saw that he felt safe with me and trusted that she was too. They lay together like this when they’re waiting for read rubs, they love snuggling together.
I highly encourage everyone who wants to adopt a bunny to find a rescue. volunteering there allows you to build relationships with the bunnies. They warm up to your home so much faster if they already know and have some level of trust with you, plus you can find the perfect bunny for you while caring for a bunch of bunnies in the process. 🐰💗
