Twix’s GI Stasis Recovery

Hello, everyone! I've been more of a silent lurker, but I wanted to post about an experience my bun had with a possible gastric obstruction and GI stasis. I know how helpful this page has been for me, so I not only hope this can help anyone in any sort of way, but also I'm looking forward to hearing further advice in the comments!

On Tuesday afternoon, I noticed my bun bun, Twix, refusing to eat, so I began monitoring him closely. Around 10 PM, I started getting nervous and gave him some critical care, then emptied his litter box so I could easily track his poops. While doing so, I noticed he kept laying down, getting up, then laying down again repeatedly. I remembered that this was a possible sign of GI stasis, and I made the decision to take him to the emergency vet. What was a little confusing for me was that apart from a decreased appetite, he still had enough energy to hop around, jump on things, etc. Regardless, I didn't wanna take any chances.

They ran bloodwork and everything came back normal except his blood glucose, which was just below the threshold that is indicative of GI stasis. The x-ray showed slight distention of his stomach as well. He stayed overnight and on Wednesday they told us he was starting to nibble on some lettuce and hay, but due to his stomach still having some distention, they would keep him another night.

This morning (Thursday), we picked up him and within an hour of being home he gradually began eating his pellets. So far, he has produced some poops and drank some water (with a bit of prompting). I also tried to give him critical care still, but he wasn't having it. He seems fairly active and is running around, but in between that he also seems a little sleepy.

For now, I am continuing to monitor his behavior and appetite, and we will follow-up in a few days with his primary vet. But feel free to comment any advice, tips, or ur experiences. <3
