Rabbit

I’m unsure what to do with my bun. (8mo old Mini Rex)

Context: My fiancée and I purchased a purebred Mini Rex (Chewie) from a reputable breeder in June 2025, the breeder explained that the parents were extremely docile and lap bunnies, so we assumed that we were going to be picking up a nice calm bunny like the 4 we’ve owned in the past (had bunnies for 10+ yrs, both times it was a bonded pair, first time having a single bun by itself)

Fast forward, it’s been about 8 months. She was great for the first month, but now she is an absolute MENACE. We got her spayed at 6mo in the hopes it would calm her down, she was getting extremely territorial. But it solved nothing. All she does is destroy things and attack us. I have scars on my hands and wrists because she bites or scratches me when I try to go into her cage/ any time I try to feed her (constant angry grunts/honks, lunging at hands with teeth out) She is UNBELIEVABLY aggressive for a spayed female, and nothing like our previous spayed Doe’s. I cannot even brush her without her turning around and trying to nip me. We give her constant enrichment via toys, toilet paper rolls, scraps of cardboard and paper, she has multiple hides and dig boxes, multiple potty boxes, unlimited access to hay and water, 1/4cup of pellets a day. Big chunks of various wood types to chew on, we spend a lot of time with her, practically every moment outside of work and school, but unfortunately it’s solving nothing. She originally was a free roamer in our basement until we discovered that she was chewing our couch, baseboards, phone cables, etc. So now she is in a playpen cage (8ft x 4ft) unless we are able to supervise her, and even then, she will destroy things right in front of us. The only way to stop her is by putting her back in the cage, when we do, she bites the cage repeatedly to say she wants “out” If we do, 10 seconds later she is back to the same spot on the carpet ripping it up!

My fiancée and I are at our wits end, we want to find a solution that does not involve giving her away, but she has expressed continued interest in returning her to the breeder.

(I understand I may get downvoted for this post or flamed in the comments because “you got a bunny, they chew” but the past 4 we have owned were nothing like this, all they did were loaf around and actively try to be around us. We don’t know what we did to deserve this bun, we’ve tried everything to give her the happy life she deserves, and she makes us regret purchasing her more and more every day 😞)
