Help ! My rabbit’s urine is red

Hello everyone!

I could really use some help right now, my bunny peed on his hemp mat (usually he does it in his litter box) I’ve noticed that his urine looked brownish with some red around the edges of the stain. Is it due to a reaction between the urine and the fabric of the mat or should I get worried ? He doesn’t eat carrots, beetroots or any red foods. His diet consists in Cuni adult pellets, Timothy hay and some treats (banana, both fresh and in the form of chips).

Here’s a photo but please note that this was taken after I tried cleaning the pee with a cloth so you can’t see the colour properly, sorry ! Thank you for your help and advice 🙏🏻

  1. My bunny’s pee has been that color since I adopted him when he was 3 and he’s going to be 11 this year! The only thing the vet ever said about him is to limit his dark leafy greens but now I’m not even sure if it’s related 😳🧐

They do that. Pretty normal. Unless it’s bright red but that doesn’t look that way

its kind of in the shape of a bunny hehe

  4. You could try wetting your greens down to increase water intake to help flush it out a little

  5. Pretty sure it’s normal, but if you really want to put your mind at ease, pour a few ccs of hydrogen peroxide on the stain.

If it’s blood, it will bubble.

nothing to worry about! mine is currently putting out some crazy red wee! if their diet has a lot of purple greens that’s what’s causing the wee (this is the case of my bun)! dehydration can also be a cause so make sure they’re drinking enough.

Looks more brown/orangey than red to me (could be wrong) which isn’t really a concern, especially if it’s dried.

Any time my buns eat dandelion their pee turns bright red, like you I panicked the first time and called the vets 😆

I put this here for you to check out. I’m not saying it’s definitely this and I’m not trying to diagnose your bun. I had looked it up before when my daughters buns urine color was like that it was due to certain leafy greens we also talked to our vet. We cut back an changed a lil bit of her greens and it improved greatly. Certain greens really discolored her urine. I have seen many bun parents talk about this happening. I hope all is well an your buns doing good🐇🐇

  10. This looks normal. God rabbit piss is so weird and changes so much
