Bunny won’t be picked up

Hi there! I am looking for advice. I’ve had bunnies for 10+ years but never had one like this sassy girl, who refuses to be picked up no matter what.

This morning we had an appointment at the vet to get her teeth filed. Usually I open the crate, put some treats in there and she hops in, no issues. A month ago I went on vacation and when I was picking her up for her sitter she also did not want to go in the crate. After a few hours we succeeded. Back to this morning: after 1,5 hours and her still not going, we ended up having to reschedule so obviously now I am looking for advice since we really need to go. The problem is not only that she moves A LOT even when being held properly, but she also free roams and is very hard to catch.

I’ve made a list of things I am doing, but I would love more tips, so we hopefully can make it to the vet. Side note: she’s been to the vet 5+ times with no issues. Vet suggested she was afraid I was going away again.

  1. I’ve ordered a new carrier with a door so she can walk in instead of having to jump

  2. I am “practicing” her being touched on her belly but even this is honestly difficult

She is not afraid to be touched at all and is very affectionate and snuggly, so it is only when lifting her.

I am quite frustrated and anxious that it will also be impossible to catch her for our rescheduled appointment and even though it is not urgent-urgent, her teeth needs to be fixed.

Bunny tax!
