Bunny

Blue passed away

Blue passed away very suddenly. Eating dinner acting completely fine to waking up to him passed in the morning. I keep crying, and am so heart broken. He was only 5 1/2 years old. He was always a sick bunny since I got him at 6 months, first two years was a mystery but was eventually diagnosed with mega colon 3 years ago.

My baby was always the life of every party, the way he was always so fearless and would shove people with his head just for fun. He would knock down pillows and nip at me (lightly) during dinner time. My husband even taught him how to kiss and he would be so cute trying to reach up to us for a kiss. He also was taught how to dig on command(sooo cute) he has been with us for everything, even our wedding.

My heart also breaks because he was bonded to my sweet girl pancake and the way these two loved each other was on a level I’ve never even seen in humans, every day they would cuddle and look at the sunset together…I’m also so terrified of her falling into depression so I kind of havnt been sleeping and constantly have been going to pet her. (Actually writing this after not sleeping all night) she did say goodbye / groomed him for a while.

I loved him with all my heart and we tried so hard to help his condition. I also can’t help but blame myself, maybe if I paid attention more I could have noticed something wrong. Did he eat enough hay? I changed their feeder to baskets and maybe it slowed down his hay habits. I wish I kissed him more that night. Was he scared? I hope he wasn’t in pain for too long. I’m having a very hard time coping.

Any advice from anyone who has gone through this is much appreciated..

  1. If he has always been sick, then you probably extended his life beyond what he would have otherwise lived with a more passive owner. If anything, you gave him MORE life! I know that doesn’t help your loss of Blue baby, but it’s probably true! You gave him love and a great life! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

I’m terribly sorry. He was the cutest 🙁

  4. Rabbits are known to hide their sicknesses as they are prey animals. He was probably suffering from it but acted completely normal. As an owner it is often tough to find out too late as you never noticed their symptoms.

I’m very sorry for your loss, I had lost one recently from sudden GI stasis so I know how you feel.

I’m so sorry. It sounds like he had a wonderful life with you. He knew he was loved beyond measure. The depth of your pain is equal to the love you gave and you did everything right for him. Dont beat yourself up during this time. He would want you to continue the love you shared in your home and remember how you made his life so good. I know it hurts like hell, you have my deepest condolences 🙏

  16. Gosh I am so incredibly sorry to hear this. When my baby Lucy passed away I wrote a letter and described every single thing I loved about her. From the tiniest thing to the biggest thing. I did that because the way I loved her was fresh in my mind. The names I called her and the things I loved about her. I told her I was going to show up for our other bunny Aspen and give her all the love. For Aspen, I got her a jelly cat stuffed bunny, I gave her extra pets and treats. I bought her a new hidy house and I just spent a lot of time with her. It’s so hard to see them grieve. It’s so heartbreaking and that’s just it. It hurts and I’m so sorry you’re hurting. Sending so much love ❤️

I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Rest in peace, little one.

One of my rabbits also is a bit delicate and I think that with a different owner she would have died a long time ago. You should also think that without your love and care, this little angel would have passed years ago. And it will be waiting for you on the other side.
