Hi all. As the title says, my beloved boy Levi passed away today. I’m really just seeking some insight if anyone has any.
Levi was a 5-6 year old lion head mix. He was a free roaming bunny that had an entire room to himself. He had a healthy diet of oxbow hay, pellets and regular dark lettuce, plus occasional treats like dried fruit. He went to the vet regularly for nail trims and a check up every year. He’s always been a healthy guy with no issues until he passed. Last night I got home from work and went to visit him in his room. He seemed kind of lethargic and when I offered him his lettuce and favorite treats (dried apples) he turned his nose at them. I spent some time hanging out in his room before bed. This morning I went to check on him and noticed he hadn’t used his litter box at all and still hadn’t eaten his lettuce or apples so I took him to the emergency vet. While there the vet said there was some GI stasis going on, but his tummy was soft so there probably wasn’t a blockage. They took his blood and while waiting for results he had a seizure in my arms and his heart stopped. They tried to bring him back but couldn’t. The vet ended up telling me his bloodwork was inconclusive but she suspected that maybe he had an underlying illness or maybe even a liver problem?
Mainly, I’m feeling like I’m a bad rabbit mom. If he was sick or suffering I never saw any signs and am beating myself up that I could’ve saved him. Did I wait too long to get him to the vet? It was less than 8 hours from when I noticed the issue and got him to the ER. Does anyone have any words of advice? Is this normal?
Pictures of him are attached because he was adorable
