Rabbit

does he need a buddy?

so my bunny Toast is 1yrs old, and has been neutered for around 4 months. He seems pretty happy. he has a large x-pen enclosure that’s connected to a hutch and he has decent amount of toys (cups, chews, sticks, foraging toys, tunnel, dig box) and he seems pretty happy. he’s a solo bunny for now because I wasn’t sure if I could afford two bunnies when I first got him, but since then i’ve had a career change and now probably could if I needed to.
He has supervised free roam time in the living room sometimes but not everyday. He’s friendly, lets me pet him, likes treats and loves exploring when he’s out but a lot of the time he kinda doesn’t do much. like he’ll throw cups and do zoomies randomly but when he’s not doing that he tends to just lay around and not do much. He might just be a lazy bun but i’m worried he’s bored or lonely.
He does honestly seem really independent and sometimes when offered free roam time he would rather just chill in his pen. The only strange thing he does is he absolutely insists on having all of his things in the middle of his pen. when I first brought him home in september I had his litter box, scratch mats, and dig box all pushed to the sides of his pen and he’s moved everything basically to a pile in the middle. if I try to move anything back to its original position he throws a fit and immediately drags it back to the middle so i’ve decided to respect his questionable decorating choices. I just can’t tell if he’s just a chill independent bunny who doesn’t mind that I don’t have a lot time some days or if he’s secretly really sad and depressed. idk I probably sound crazy but any advice would be appreciated 😅
