Hiya!
I have a 1 year old boy, Teddy, he's a mini lop and here in Aus, we are experiencing the worst heatwave in 5 years.
Yesterday was 41 degrees(C) here and he had plenty of ice, frozen fruit, water, cool towels and access indoors with aircon.
He was fine, and then 30 minutes later he was floppy, couldn't stand, tried walking and immediately fell over and kept getting a wobbly head.
I wiped his ears with cool water and put him in a wash basket with a frozen bag of peas wrapped in a towel for him to lean on and called the vet.
We couldn't take him until 11pm, to the vet hospital and they said he had floppy bunny syndrome.
We took him to an exotic vet today after he refused feeds and stopped pooping and they said it's one of two things e.cuniculi or heat stroke.
We started critical care every 2 hours after the first emergency vet but he refused to take it, has had 30ml today.
He has confirmed GI stasis, hasn't pooped in 24 hours, they started him on gi meds, fenbendazole and Meloxicam.
He still can't use his legs at all and when he tries to move just falls over quite violently, his head wobbles constantly and he's very lethargic.
They were very blunt and honest and said if he hasn't improved in the next 24 hours, we are looking at euthanasia being the kindest option.
They also said whether it's from heat stroke or E. Cuniculi, the damage is done and there's nothing we could do to fix it.
Looking for experiences and whether or not your bun made it through to have any quality of life, even a wobbly one, or passed/had to be euthanized?
How long can a rabbit go without pooping?
I'm so distraught and heart broken ðŸ˜
