Hello! I would like some insight for this issue. Right before October ended, I took my bun (female, she would have become 8 yo just 2 days later!) to the vet for what I suspected was a dental abscess located on her left jaw, because she wasn't eating as much as before.
The vet confirmed so and kept her for the night, filed her incisors under anesthesia (she had a malocclusion), prescribed me an antibiotic to give to her for one week straight, and told me there shouldn't be anymore problems with that abscess, especially since bunnies have strong immunitary systems, but if it became bigger again, I should bring her so he could perform surgery. The abscess didn't become bigger, and my bunny became active and began eating again.
Now, almost three months later, my bunny became lethargic again, because another abscess came out, this time under the chin. I took her again to the vet, and he said that this new one (a round ball, detached from the bone, filled with pus) didn't bother her, and instead, the previous one (that during these months didn't grow in size) was attached to the tooth, and that surgery should be performed to extract the tooth. But he told me that since "she's old", the anesthesia might be risky, because she might have an heart attack and die.
But why didn't he say anything during the first anesthesia? Is it different this time?
He checked her heart and said it was pretty good, but I'm wondering if something might happen.
We scheduled the surgery on January 13th, but I'm considering calling the whole thing off… even if I'm not really getting a weird feeling about this, strangely.
She has been with me since she was a baby, and she is my first real pet (it's so weird to call her a pet, she's family!) this vet performed her vaccines and sterilization. He's specialized only in cats and rabbits and doing this job for more than 40 years.
What do you think? I can't really afford other vets, this one is the cheapest one, because (maybe you guessed it by the way I wrote) I'm fairly young, and my parents are struggling economically right now after some stuff happened. We don't live in the USA but in Europe.
Sorry if my English was a little off, it isn't my first language! Thank you for reading this, I hope everything will go well. Have a good day
(attached two photos of her 🙂 the first one was taken this summer when we were on vacation (she LOVES that purple bed), the second was taken at my grandparents' house)
