Rabbit

My days adventure of getting my rabbit Did help for gas build-up as a swede.

Yesterday at about 4-5pm, regular veggie-time, my bnuyy Did, castrated male mixed-breed of 2y decided to not eat his veggies. Even more telling of him not feeling well, he refused his Oh-so-dear pellets (sparkles), at 9-10pm.

As wonderful as swedish vets are, obviously they are closed even for emergencies at those times. Thus I had to wait for morning yo call in for an emergency visit.

I live in middle Sweden, and my day will consist of traveling between Town A, Town B and Town C. I live in Town B, and Town A and C is a 20-30minutes drive from Town B. In diferent directions.

My call to the vet was made at 7:45am, and shortly after I was outside battling the icy windows on my car, with Did in a cage with his blanket and a lot of hay in the front seat. After a 25 min drive I arrive at the vet at around 8:15am.

I instantly get asigned an examination room and a vet nurse tells me to wait a bit, as sudden visits can have some wait times in between.
The vet and a nurse arrive shortly, checks his weight, front teeth and takes some general information about him. They leave afterwards and I need to wait for 10-15min for the vet to return cheek teeth are checked, vet leaves again after I agree to an xray. 30min wait. Did is taken for his xray, and I need to wait again. He's retuned to the examination room, nurse leaves to check in the xray pics, more waiting. Vet arrives and says an abnormal amount of gas is building in his gut, he leaves to get medicins. Waiting continues and Did quickly get his tray of medications administered.

I left the room and payed for his visit at 10am. Drive home ensues, so another 25min from Town C back to Town B. I make a 15min stop at a pharmacy to get his additionaly prescribed medications. One isn't in stock in all of Town B, better luck in Town A or other towns with each a 40min drive one-way, all in different directions.

I drive home, dump the bnuyy and drive of to Town A. Success! Medication filly accuired. Proceeds to drive home to Town B. Almost gets thrown of the road in a roundabout going 10km/h due to ice.

Finally at home! Check the grass muncher if he's munching. Barely, but he ate a pellet at least.
Proceed to call my mom paniced for the fifth time today, as I realize I got a medication marked as for dogs, with a pretty high doze for a 1,4kg poop-dispensor. Proceeds to call vet again for explanation. Expert says 'yes, normal', guess he's going to feel like a jelly cup after it, but ok. Checks the syringe, marked in KG's and not ML's. Pause for an hour to decompress, then I take a walk to my closest pharmacy to get a new syringe. Comes home and my money-burning floor gremlin is eating hay finally (guess the 2 different painkillers are doing wonders).

All and all, my adventure of panic and anxiety took me from 8:15am too 3pm. As he isn't insured yet as I barely even new that was an option (no wonder, there is seriously only 2 insurance companies that insure rabbits, and one I've never even heard of), his vet bill and meds is completely payed by me.

As standard, emergency visit slaps on an additional sum of 2800sek. Adding on his xray and medication at the vet, the bill was slightly under 7000sek. Additionally his prescriptions where 550sek.

His medications for the next upcoming days will be a wonderful cocktail of Vetalgin (painkiller), Vetergesic (morphin), Metacam (anti-inflamatory painkiller) and Mirataz (appitite stimulator).

Rabbits sure are something else when it comes to health scares.

Culprit in picture. He owes me money.
