Small Pet Select

We recently switched from Oxbow hay to Small Pet Select. We are on our third 12 lb box.
The first box was great quality and NONE of it was wasted.
The second box seemed okay for the most part, but had a lot of really thick stalks and other inedible pieces (I'm assuming inedible because they were not eaten). I wasn't too concerned because overall I can appreciate the minimal handling of the product.
We just got our third box and I can already tell that at least half of it will be wasted.
I set myself up on autoship for this and want to know from experienced customers if this is to be expected going forward or if maybe the this is just a bad couple of boxes?
I've included a photo of the pieces that won't be eaten (more than half the box is this)
