hi everyone, meet rosie, the most spunky, loving, curious bunny to ever live. she went to school with me almost every day, and loved every second of it. everyone loved her. i started being known as “rosie’s mom”. she became the thing people looked forward to at school events (her piggy outfit for trick or treat night is pictured above). she was never scared of ANYTHING, even jumping onto strangers laps all day long.
yesterday morning, she was completely fine. last night, she took a completely sudden turn for the worst. all of a sudden, she couldn’t find her balance, and we immediately rushed her to the closest animal er, which is unfortunately 20 minutes away. on the way, she was throwing her head all the way back and arching her back, even letting out little moans. i have never been more scared in my life. she had a seizure, and that’s when i lost her. she went completely limp with no heartbeat about 2 minutes from the er.
i immediately started trying to do compressions and once we got to the er, i jumped out of the moving vehicle and sprinted into the place. all of the staff were so beyond kind and jumped to helping me and little rosie.
unfortunately, after 5 rounds of cpr, there was no change, and we opted to just letting her go. this was the hardest moment of my life. she was only 7
months old.
the doctor told us there’s nothing we could’ve done different, and that it was most likely something neurological, but i still feel so beyond guilty. she was my baby.
i have 2 other buns, one 8 years old, and the other 7. the 3 of them are my world. i just don’t know how to keep going. i’m so defeated and i feel like the worst bunny mom in the world.
she was supposed to be getting certified as a therapy animal to go into nursing homes and children’s hospitals next week.
all this to say, goodbye rosie. you were and are so so so loved by everyone you met and you would have been the best therapy animal ever. your 7 months were some of the fullest any bunny would’ve had. i will miss you forever my baby.
