We’ve had benji (pictured attached for bunny tax) for about 4 years and he is suspected to be about 8 (he’s a rescue so unsure). We recently relocated so his set up has changed. He was completely free roam and his food and litter tray on opposite sides of a room and never had any issues.
Since moving, we gave him a night time pen (plenty of room) just incase of any issues whilst he settled in. It’s been 2 months now and he continually pees all over his pen – particularly in front of the food and water bowl. He never did this before and means we can’t let him free roam at night. This isn’t a major issue as he is older now and doesn’t run around too much in the evening but I’d rather he had the run of the house. We brought his old tray and items with us and apart from the occasional oops he only pees in the pen. We’ve tried everything you’re meant to retrain him. 2 weeks ago he had a bad bought of GI stasis which we rushed him to the vet and he’s made a full recovery, but the peeing continues.
So the question, I’ve read that older buns can just get lazy and pee as they drink as it’s easier but also could be a sign of renal issues. He’s been on metacam for a few years now and been slowly loosing weight for the past year despite being very well fed. He poops as he moves around but I figured this is cause he’s an old man these days and just one of those things. Or is it just a case of relocating?
Appreciate any advice cause the big thing I’m worried about is urine scolding if he isn’t going in the tray, he’s had this issue before because of some health problems and don’t want him to go through it again!
