Bunny

This is Lil

I recently adopted Lil (AKA L’il Bun Bun or Hippo) from the humane society. She’s around 3, spayed, vaxxed, and healthy. She is very shy and does not want to be touched. She will give me nose boops on my fist and sometimes take pellets or a treat from my hand and I might be able to sneak in a quick head pat. She’s so cute and sweet and I just want to pet and snuggle her so much . She spends a lot of time hiding in her cardboard box house.

One issue is that she will not eat any kind of vegetable, fruit, or greens. The shelter told me that she “wasn’t crazy about veggies” and I thought that if I tried everything I’d find something she likes. Nope. She’ll give one sniff, then run away. Yesterday she thumped at me for offering her half of a blackberry. The only treats she will eat are crunchy pellet type ones. I did take her to the vet and they said she was healthy and since she eats enough hay I shouldn’t worry. It makes it really hard to befriend her though, since I can’t tempt her with any treats except timothy biscuit type things and I don’t want to give her too much of those.

I’d like to get her a friend but I am apprehensive about the bonding experience. Taking her for speed dates at the shelter will stress her out so I don’t know if I’ll get a good read on her mood around the other rabbits. She was surrendered with another rabbit but they were not bonded and fought when they were kept together. But if I could find the right fit I think it would be good for her 🥹

Anyway, thanks for reading. Sometimes I get sad because I don’t think she’ll ever warm up to me, but I love her anyway.
