Following statements by U.S. President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced the start of a “new phase” in the conflict between Washington and Tehran, stating: “The most effective tool that we have is the economic pressure that we can apply to them.”
Speaking on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show podcast, Vance described the ongoing situation as a “delicate dance” between the two nations: “We apply economic pressure to them, they’re going to try to apply economic pressure to us. What has been true over the last couple of weeks is that they have felt a lot more pressure than we have.”
According to Vice President Vance, Washington intends to maintain this policy, viewing it as the most effective path toward achieving its ultimate strategic objectives.
Vance’s comments follow announcements by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who told CNBC that the U.S. administration will roll out intensified economic sanctions next week. Bessent claimed these measures would lead to the collapse of the Iranian regime and referred to the upcoming campaign as “the greatest coordinated economic isolation in the history of the world.”
