Baby Bunny Baby Rabbit

Feeding a baby Jack Rabbit

Here’s a little Texas jack rabbit that we ended up having to take care of and how it happened is quite a story. Sit back while I tell it to you.

Me and my grandfather had to pump some water for cows. We were up by the booster pump when I heard a little squeal. One of the dogs had dug a small burrow out and taken one of the baby animals. That was a rabbit burrow. The dog didn’t hurt the baby in any way so I put it back with the rest.

2 days later we were up at the pump again bleeding a line out when I heard another squeal. The same dog had gone back to the burrow and taken another baby out. Probably the same one from 2 days earlier. I went to put it back AGAIN when I looked in the hole to find a snake.

I took care of the snake and checked the hole. The other babies in it were gone and the one the dog had taken out was all wet on the head. We figured the snake was trying to eat the poor rabbit since the dog didn’t leave any slobber on the rabbit.

We figured out that the mother had taken the rest of her babies and left this one behind as the snake hadn’t eaten anything. We decided right then and there to just take the baby home and raise it enough to be turned out.

That was 5 days prior to the day this was uploaded.
