Hi all. One morning a few weeks ago I began hearing a whistling noise whenever my rabbit breathed and discovered he had some inflammation blocking his right nostril.
I immediately took him to the vet. Because my rabbit has a lot of enrichment toys (the kind from Oxbow) and he's big into chewing anything he can find, the vet suspected the irritation was likely from his nose coming into contact with these things as he chewed them. They also checked his lungs and they were fine so the whistling was definitely coming from the blockage in his nose. In the end, they prescribed him some oral antibiotics.
Two weeks later, the growth more or less stayed the same. The vet however said that whatever was left was probably the result of scabbing, that in time the inflammation would naturally go down. Well, another two weeks have passed and the inflammation is just as bad, if not worse, and I'm worried for my pet's breathing. He's as energetic as ever, eats and poops fine, but you never know when things could get precarious with one of these guys.
Before we go to the vet again – maybe not the same one, who knows – I wanted to see if anyone in this thread has seen anything similar? We're worried that this might be a polyp, or something more complicated than just regular inflammation.
We've also taken away most of his toys and kind of left the bare minimum enrichment for him – a few Oxbow sticks, a couple of hidey spots, a cardboard cat scratcher, and so on. He's free roaming but we've bunny-proofed his space. The worst he's done chewing-wise is that he chipped a bit of the dry wall once but we've since proofed that spot. Otherwise, I've no idea what could be driving the inflammation.
Appreciate any observations/comments/recommendations!
